Hybrid Geothermal systems integrate geothermal systems with conventional equipment such as cooling towers and boilers or with multiple types of geothermal, for example, vertical Closed-loop and pond loop systems. Hybrid geothermal systems are becoming far more popular because they allow significant reduction in CAPEX while maintaining most of the benefits.

By shedding some of the load to a conventional source during peak periods, the geothermal system can be significantly reduced in size and the load can be balanced, further improving performance. Hybrid systems tend to have the most attractive paybacks of all the systems, with some achieving a financial return within a year.
