In Slab Radiant Heating Systems

In slab heating is the most efficient way to heat an occupied space, polymer pipes are laid into the concrete slab or floor through which low-temperature hot water is circulated. The system takes advantage of the prominent surface to radiate heat into the room. In addition, because the heat is added at floor level, this counteracts the natural buoyancy effect of heated air, optimises the heating profile of the room and hence provides the same comfort level at lower indoor temperatures. Typically, floor heating operates at room temperatures 2 to 3 degrees C lower than other radiant or convective heating systems, translating into a 30% saving in energy. Due to the large surface area available, heating water supply temperatures can be reduced by 10 deg C or more, allowing heat pumps, boilers etc., to operate more efficiently. Additional benefits include –

  • Reduced energy consumption
  • Higher occupant comfort levels, i.e. warm feet, cool head
  • No requirement for ducting – invisible system
  • Completely silent operation – no fans or air movement
  • Better combination with alternate energy sources, i.e. heat pumps and condensing boilers
  • Blends into the build better – provides more flexibility to the architect

Enertec offers a design service for in slab heating systems that will provide you with the most efficient system and help you save money on the installation.
